1996 Fender
Precision
Something of a workhorse
bass. I got this for cost from a friend who owned a music shop. I thought
I could do with a bass just for gigging, so a cheap one that I could bash
about seemed ideal. Its Mexican built and cost me £79. The thing is that
its really easy to play, as good as the '59 nearly. The pick ups are good
quality and it has a great tone. Too good to bash around then...I use it
for recording and gigging as my main bass, and there's not a mark on it. A
great bit of cheap gear.

1985 Fretless
Precision Custom
This little monster is
made from all sorts of other guitars. Both my brother and Stuart owned a
Kay precision copy. Great pickups, reasonable neck, and about 85 quid. I
needed a spare bass in a hurry so bought a Kay in Swindon one afternoon.
That formed the basis for this thing here. The neck is a Mighty Mouse, the
guts are Fender, but the pickups and body are from the Kay. I think it has
Fender machines and scratch plate as well. It ended up in Bradford for
years after I left NMA. Nelson was using it, but eventually I reclaimed it
and brought it home. It could do with a bit of a fix up as there are some
little bits missing or damaged, but it still has the loudest pick ups
ever. Shame it hasn't got a rosewood neck like all the others. |

2004
Fender Squier 5-String Precision
I added this recently because I wanted to try a five
string without spending a fortune. I'm still getting to
grips with it as the neck is rather wide and cumbersome,
and I keep going for the A-string and playing the
misplaced E-string instead. Bad idea. |
