Bass Gear

This is the uninteresting and nerdy stuff that I was always asked at gigs...

Plectrums
Jim Dunlop USA Nylon 1mm

How dull....plectrums. These are heavy but flexible, and I never, ever drop them. They don't break strings and they don't snap, which is all you need to know.

A Lead

Well if you want to plug a bass into an amp, somewhere along the line you'll need a lead. I used to use Klotz ones because although expensive, they were the best. Now they're not, but they're still expensive, so I use something else.

Strings
Rotosound Roto Bass RB 45

I've used Rotosound faithfully for many years, mainly because I used to get them free, but even now I get them for less than cost. Roto Bass don't have that dozy bit of nylon at the end, which is why I like them, and if I try not to sound like an endorsee, they're just loads better than other strings I've used. I fannied around with various sets, including the Billy Sheehan skinny top/heavy bottom variety, but ultimately a 43 is too skinny for me. Using a 110 at the bottom is alright but I'm not splitting sets just for that. My undying thanks to Jason How at James How Industries for all the strings he's given me over the years.
