Recorded Work - The Damned
During the years that I was with The Damned, we recorded four lots of demos and an album, which wasn't particularly well received by the die hard fans, and ignored by everybody else. The first batch of recordings were done in the northernmost reaches of Scotland, in a barn on a disused farm. Rat put them together on an eight track reel-to-reel machine. I don't know what happened to them. We re-recorded these ideas at a studio in Central London. Dave never mustered the enthusiasm to sing on them, and they were abandoned. The next batch were recordings of the Alan Lee Shaw tunes, done at a variety of London studios including Falconer and Funny Bunny. These became the basis for the album deal. We also did a couple of live radio sessions, for GLR and Mark Radcliffe's Radio One show, and some TV work. This included a re-recording of Smash It Up, with a live vocal for a Michael Aspel show, and In Bed With Me Dinner, Bob Mills' late night comedy show. I've included the abandoned London demos, which are instrumental, the album demos, although I'm not sure which versions, some live edits from the drunken Mullhouse show that ended the French tour of 1994, I'm not sure what Dave thought was so funny, but I laughed at the time, and it still makes me smile now, some other odds and sods from '94 and some stuff with Grunfy on Hammond from 1995.
