New Model Army Videos

I've never enjoyed making videos, spending days standing around and miming, but mostly just standing around. We only did five whilst I was with the band, and I think I enjoyed one of those. 51st State was produced in-house by PMI, and shot at locations like the US Embassy, McDonald's and Greenham Common. I skipped off home from there because it wasn't far, it was getting dark and it was very boring with the  hangers-on being paid not to do much. White Coats was better, shot around Malham Cove in Yorkshire. EMI hated it because we weren't  'playing' any instruments and got us to add the miming later, after Robert had shut my hand in a van door in Scotland. Luckily, you can't see the bandage in the shot. Stupid Questions was the only enjoyable one, shot by Paul Cox in Justin's garage with the windows knocked out. Once the footage was done, we played live for the madding crowd to say thanks for putting up with all the miming. They were some mad buggers who made it all worthwhile. The best shots are from that bit of the evening. Vagabonds was Paul Cox again. He shot this during a two-day production rehearsal at the Town and Country before the Thunder and Consolation tour. It dragged on, and pissed everyone in the crew off because it wasted a lot of time rolling gear in and out of the venue when we should have been working. I was very bored with all the standing around, and I'm not even in it. Green and Grey was the last one for me, I really couldn't be bothered after not being in the Vagabonds video, so I let the side down by arriving hours late and very hung-over. In the end, it was a little better to do than the last one, but disturbing to see those joined faces in the final edit. I'm glad I never did another.
