These were recorded by
Thames TV at the Town and Country on November 24th 1988. We probably played for about
an hour and a quarter, and it was free admission. The whole gig was
edited down to roughly 30 minutes, but the remixed sound that John Cornfield, who
recorded Thunder and Consolation at the Sawmill, did for us after Thames'
engineer made such a poor job on the night was 'lost', which was dreadful really,
as he did a great job with it. I'd love to see the whole thing again with
his mix on it, but I doubt it still exists, even though all the TV crew
thought we were the best band from the twenty-odd they did that week. I think Thames cut nearly every song we
did from Thunder from the broadcast version because it wasn't out at the time. Chris McLaughlin plays
guitar, and sings for me, as I was just out of hospital that morning, after a
routine operation on my tonsils went wrong and I had to be re-admitted thanks to
a huge infection which caused a lot of secondary haemorrhaging. Perhaps we were
all spared that one. Oh, and the thing in my pocket is my backstage pass, I
forgot it was there. Thanks to Tina for the missing songs. |
