Soon after fleeing from
London back to my West Country roots in 1995, The Damned ceased to be,
leaving me without a regular band for the first time in a decade. I took
up bass and guitar tuition at the local music shop in Marlborough, and
met a few people from the local live music scene. After a while I
started to feel the need to start playing again, and in 1996 I decided
to do something about it. That thing became Pants, the sort of band I
was always destined to do sooner or later. It was an eventful and bumpy
ride, with a lot of stopping and starting along the way. We eventually
called it quits in late 2007, after eleven years of slaughtering other
people's songs for fun and money. In the early days we were a proficient
and well rehearsed band, who were far different from anyone else playing
in the area, but as time passed we became something of an unrehearsed
shambles, always attempting to emulate our better days, but normally
failing miserably. During out final year we booked several gigs and
began rehearsing, but usually found and excuse not to play them. Our
final gig was an embarrassment I wish I hadn't been part of. In the end,
it wasn't funny anymore, and it wasn't fun to be a part of, so we
stopped.
The stuff
assembled here is bodged from a previous version, before Fal took over
the site, which he shut down when he decided to leave the band (and then
put back up again). I don't blame him, I'd thought about it myself and so had
everyone else. I thought we could maybe keep Pants in reserve if the
project I was working on failed to happen, but it's going ahead now, so
no worries there. |
